‘Les Chiens Sportives’ is based in Charras in the Southwest of France in the Charente Region (16). We offer accommodation (cattery and kennels)for both cats and dogs, as well as a comprehensive program of training for dogs. An original featureof our business is to offer clients a unique combined holiday and dog training program, where clients are invited to work together with their dog in the Calmand area of the French countryside.
Gwen Pieters and Mario de Braal, are offering not only a pension for cats and dogs, but also comprehensive training for dogs such as: Puppyschool, Obedience, Agility, Dog Dance and, last but not least, gundog training. All of these training programs are based on working together with your animal and based on mutual respect.

Gwen is a fully certified Behavioral Consultant for dogs, which enables us to offer regular interesting and informative workshops. These workshops can be combined with short break holidays, where we are able to offer comfortable accommodation for clients on site. This enables both dog and owner to participate in the multi-themed and numerous workshops on offer, whilst also enjoying a peaceful holiday in the beautiful Charente Region of France.

When:
‘Les Chiens Sportives’ is situated in the peaceful open countryside and on land that was once a farm (circa.1844). At present the character farm buildings are undergoing reconsrtuction and sympathetic refurbishment to offer high specification accommodation for both animals and guests. We are aiming to offer (based on estimated timescale) boarding for animals from July 2016. At the same time we are hoping to start our dog school on a very small scale. The dog school will start with agility and gun dog training. We’re hoping that from the beginning of 2017 we will be able to offer our full range of training courses.

How are we doing:
The huge reconstruction and renovation was started mid January 2016. This is a massive project due to the fact that the old farmhouse and ouutbuildings were abandoned for over 15 years. Removing the vegetation and clearing the acces to the site is almost completed, so by the end of January we will be able to commence with the real construction work. The initial works comprise: renovation of the rooves, construction of a brand new fosse ceptic and associated pipework, replumbing, rewiring, new concrete floors for the kennels with underfloor heating etcetera, etcetera.
